Gorkha Zilla Gurung Samaj UK h eld its 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) cum Family Get-t ogather on 15th April 2017 in Kennington Community Hall, Ashford under the chairmanship of Mr Phadakjit Gurung. To commemorate our 10th Anniversary, the Chair and the founding Chair, Mr Tham Parsad Gurung,j ointly cut the cake before commencing the meeting. The meeting was conducted by General Secretary, Mr BalaramGurung. T he following salient points were discussed and decided during the meeting:
1. No charity dinner of any kind would be held in the future due to everyone’s busy schedule.
2. As in the past, the organisation has decided to continue publishing “Daraud i Thames” , the official magazine of the Organisation. The 4th edition will be published and distributed during the Lhosar Celebration on 29 December 2017. To make the magazine more informative and interesting, the magazine team has decided to judge the articles and award prizes to those that provide the best interesting articles for the magazine. £300 has already been set aside to purchase the prizes.
3. The General Secretary, Mr Balram Gurung, gave a detailed annual report of the Organisation which was approved by all.
4. The Treasurer, Mr Narendra Gurung, also presented his detailed annual financial report in a clear and concise manner for the financial year 2016/17. There were no dissent.
5. Auditors, Mr Gautam Gurung and Taramani Gurung, had carried out the financial audit before the AGM and had approved all the financial statements of the organisation.The chairman thanked them for their effort to carry out the audit during their leisure time.
6. Tamu Dhee UK (TDUK), registered charity no:1120443, is publishing a book some time in the future on the Gurung tribes of Nepal covering every aspect of its history, culture and traditions. The book will be published in three different languages i.e. English, Gurung and Roman Gurkhali to give a wider choice to the readers to read in the language they prefer. TDUK has sought support from all Gurung organisations in the UK to accomplish this historical project. Since this is for the benefit of the younger generations, the organisation has decided to do nate £200 towards the project.
7. In recognition of our Organisation’s financia l support for the reconstruction of the community building, Tamu HyulaChhonj Dhe e, in Nepal which was badly damaged by the massive earthquake of April 2015, they had sent us a beautifully framed commendation certificat e which was shown to all our members. All members were well pleased with this kind gesture.
8. Every year we celebrate our New Year called ‘Tamu Lhosar’ which basically marks the changing of the zodiac sign. This much enjoyable and happy occasion will be celebrated on Friday, 29 December 2017. The Celebration will be held inFeltham Community College Hall, London.
