Major Prembahadur Gurung was born in Nepane village in Gorkha and had his primary education there. He had his main education in a boarding school in Pokhara and enlisted in the Brigade of Gurkha in 1989. He was commissioned in 2008 and has recently been promoted to the rank of Major. We are immensely pleased that he has taken over the appointment of Gurkha Major of 2nd Royal Gurkha Rifles (2 RGR) from June 2014. Gurkha Major the Second Royal Gurkha Rifles - Major Prembahadur Gurung Major Prembahadur Gurung comes from Nepane, Kerabari, Gorkha District. He enlisted into the Brigade of
Gurkhas on 11 Nov 1989 in Pokhara, Nepal. Upon completion of his basic Infantry Training at Training Depot Brigade of Gurkhas (TDBG) in Hong Kong, he joined A Company 1St Battalion the 2nd King Edward VII’s Own Gurkha Rifles at Church Crookham Barrack in the UK. Since the formation of the Royal Gurkha Rifles in 1994 he has been serving with 2 RGR.
During the internal rebalancing in 1999 he was posted to Anti-Tank Platoon in Support Company. On promotion to CSgt in 2003 he was posted to Anti-Tank Division as CSgt instructor in Warminster. In 2006 he assumed the Support Company Sergeant Major appointment and prepared the Coy for Herrick 9 deployment.
He was commissioned in 2008 and assumed the appointment of Platoon Commander in Foxtrot Company, Gurkha Reinforcement Company. In 2009 he deployed on Herrick 10 with his Platoon. In Mar 2010 he rejoined with Battalion in Brunei. He assumed the appointment of Regimental Career Management Officer and the second in command of Rear Operation Group during Herrick 14. On completion of 2 years of RCMO job he was posted to Sp Coy, 2RGR in Jul 2012 to assume the Second in Command appointment. He was selected for the prestigious post of Gurkha Major, 2RGR in Jan 14. From 8 Jul 2014, Major Prem assumed the appointment of Gurkha Major 2RGR.
His service has seen him deployed on Op SILKMAN (Siera Leone), Op PALATINE (Bosina), Op Herrick (Afghanistan) and has served in Hong Kong, Brunei, Belize, Malaysia, Kenya, Canada and Australia.
Maj Prem is married to Goma and they have two children, Priya (aged 12) and Prakriti (aged 10). He enjoys all sports but a beginner in golf.
