Gorkha Zilla Gurung Samaj UK Donated Cheque of NCRs 1.5 Million (15 Lakh) to Priminister Flood Relief Fund

Ex Vice Chair Mrs Naina Gurung presenting a cheque to Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle

On the morning of 26th August 2026, a massive flash flood and debris flow (locally named as mud tsunami that reached up to 150 meters in height), destroyed the Gyirong checkpoint on China-Nepal border and struck dozens of settlements along 72 kilometres stretch of the Trishuli river in Nepal. This catastrophic debris flow and flood triggered by the rapid slope failure involving a glacier burst in

Langtang national park. Thousand plus bodies have been recovered and more than 5000 are still unaccounted for including the foreigners.

Thousands of families have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in a matter of hours. Many people have been forced from their homes and are facing and uncertain future as search and rescue efforts continue. The government of Nepal has appealed for the donations to support the crisis. The best and quickest way to provide support those affected by the flash floods is to donate to the Prime minister’s Disaster Relief fund (PDRF) now.

We, Gorkha Zilla Gurung Samaj UK, registered charity no 1175191 had Emergency Response committee meeting on 29 August 2026 and decided to raise the fund and donate it as soon as possible. our members have generously donated for this cause and most significantly our well-wisher Killik Charitable trust supported our cause by donating £5,000 (Sterling Pound Five Thousand) towards our mission. With this significant amount we managed to hand-over a cheque of NCRs 1.5 million (15 Lakh) towards the PDRF.
We would like to thank all the donors, Killik Charitable Team and mostly Mr Jeremy O’Mahony (Chairman Killik Charitable Trust) who coordinated to donate the significant amount of sum towards the crisis.

Our representatives, ex Vice Chair Mrs Naina Gurung and her husband Mr Mimkumar Gurung who happened to be in Kathmandu at the time, accompanied by Member of Parliament (MP) Miss Alija Gurung from Gorkha District and Miss Gopinja Gurung handed over the cheque of NCRs 1.5 million (Rs 15 lakh) to Nepal Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle on 04 September 2026 at the Ministry Office. We pray for all those affected by the disaster.
